2 RIFLES
A STRONG SEASON FOR THE REGIMENTAL BOXING TEAM
What a season it has been for the
Regimental Boxing Team. Major Rob Parsons
took over as Regimental Boxing Officer
in December 2025, working alongside
coach Sgt Tayler and team manager WO2
Weir. Following a discussion with the
Commanding Officer, the decision was
made to enter the Army Major Unit Boxing
Competition.
Drawn against 1 LANCS in the semi-finals,
2 RIFLES travelled to Weeton Barracks in early
February. Facing early setbacks going 2–0
down without a punch thrown due to a failed
medical and the absence of a featherweight
the team needed something special.
Digging deep, they delivered an outstanding
performance to secure a 5–4 victory.
The final saw 2 RIFLES face 3 PARA. Despite
a determined effort, the team came up short,
losing 6–3 on the night.
Another highlight was the introduction of
the SHAW Cup, a new fixture against REME.
While the RIFLES were defeated this year, there
is no doubt that 2027 will be a different story.
The season also brought individual success.
At the Army Individual Championships, Rfn
Merchant and Rfn Bogan were crowned Army
champions. In addition, Rfn Als and Rfn Taylor
Lee were selected for the Army Development
Team.
Although the season concluded without
overall victory, the squad’s progress, resilience,
and talent were clear standouts. 2 RIFLES also
earned Coaching Team of the Year.
The future is bright for RIFLES Boxing, and
2027 promises even greater success.
