MEDALS PARADE: HONOURING SERVICE
AT HILLSBOROUGH CASTLE
In May, soldiers from 2 RIFLES, alongside
family and friends, gathered at Hillsborough
Castle to celebrate the Battalion’s recent
operational achievements and formally
recognise service on operations.
The centrepiece of the event was the
presentation of Operational Service Medals
to approximately 150 Riflemen from B and C
Companies following their deployments on
Op SHADER 21. Additional Wider Service and
General Service Medals were also awarded,
recognising contributions to other operational
commitments, including Op CABRIT.
The parade was reviewed by His Majesty’s
Lord-Lieutenant of County Antrim and
accompanied by the Band and Bugles of The
Rifles, providing a fitting backdrop to a proud
and memorable occasion.
The medals recognised service during a
demanding period in Iraq. Operating as the
UK Mobility Company, B and C Companies
delivered force protection, supported coalition
partners, and contributed to the wider mission
against Daesh. During Op EPIC FURY, C
Company played a key role in force protection
and contingency operations amid heightened
regional tensions and sustained attacks.
While medallic recognition was central,
the event also acknowledged the vital
contribution of families and friends.
Their resilience and support throughout
demanding deployments remain critical to
operational success.
