EX URBAN ARROW
During EX URBAN ARROW troops conducted
an intense urban exercise designed to
sharpen the skills of Sniper Platoon in the
centre of Norwich. The training focused
on reconnaissance patrols, stalks, raids,
overwatch taskings and counter-sniper
operations within a realistic city environment,
reflecting the challenges modern infantry
units may face during future deployments.
Operating across disused buildings,
narrow alleyways, and industrial estates,
sniper teams worked in pairs. The demanding
scenarios tested patience, communication,
and fieldcraft under pressure.
The exercise also included a series of
fast-moving raids, with Sniper pairs providing
overwatch from elevated positions, relaying
information and covering advancing troops as
they moved through complex urban terrain.
The realism of the training environment
allowed soldiers to rehearse operating in
confined highly complex factory and office
spaces.
Counter-Sniper Operations added another
layer of intensity. Troops practised locating
and tracking hostile marksmen hidden within
the city landscape, using ground and threat
analysis, observation skills and coordinated

manoeuvres to neutralise enemy. This serial
culminated in a Rifleman led planning cycle
and stalk after gathering intelligence during a
raid the previous day.
The Norwich exercise demonstrated
the adaptability and professionalism of
our troops as they refined specialist skills
essential to modern warfare. By combining
