WINTER
A Company, deployed to Sennybridge
Training Area for a 20-day battle
camp to hone their soldiering skills
in the arduous Welsh mountains.
They were joined by soldiers from
7 (PARA) RHA and B Company, 3
RIFLES. The exercise began with
a dawn raid onto Cellini village,
setting the conditions for further
actions in the weeks to come.
The anti-tank platoon
spent the first week
living in OPs and hasty
vehicle ambushes,
meanwhile the
assault pioneer
platoon perfected
their art of
mobility and
counter-mobility
actions. The force then
combined for a 5-day final
exercise which saw raids on a
Russian-style trench system, as
well as offensive and defensive
anti-armour manoeuvres. Throughout
the exercise, the joint force endured
snow, gale force winds, and persistent
rainfall. Many lessons were learnt
from the exercise, which exposed
the difficulty of operating in the
rural-urban fringe, however A
Company bound together and
ended the exercise on a high with
a challenging raid onto a farm
complex utilising assault pioneers to
breach hasty obstacles.
