Alpine Excellence and Nordic Grit: 6 RIFLES Success on the Snow
A team of eight from 6 RIFLES delivered
an outstanding performance at the
Infantry Alpine Ski Championships in
Val D’Isère on Ex FROSTED BLADE 40,
returning with an impressive haul of five
trophies, approximately 30 medals and
the prestigious title of Best Overall Team.
Drawn from across all four companies
and comprised entirely of Reservists,
they demonstrated exceptional capability,
dominating events on both the A and B
Hills.
Each winter, Ex FROSTED BLADE brings
together around 250 infanteers for a
demanding five-week alpine race camp,
widely regarded as the premier training
environment for downhill ski racing.
Competing in Slalom, Giant Slalom, Super
G and the notorious Downhill, the team
medalled across all disciplines, securing
gold in every event except the GS, where
they claimed a strong silver. Additional
success on the B Hill saw five bronze medals
added in Slalom and GS.
Pushing both physical and mental limits,
the Riflemen combined aggression with
precision, and their success reflects not
only individual determination but also the
strength of the Battalion’s winter sports
programme, contributing to the continued
dominance of Infantry teams at higher-level
Army competitions.
Elsewhere, Cpl Aslett, of The Salamanca
Band and Bugles, represented 6 RIFLES
with distinction as part of the Infantry
Women’s Nordic Team during Exercise
INFANTRY NORDIC SWORD 2025–26. Despite
no prior skiing experience, she rapidly
developed her ability through an intensive
training programme in Sweden and France,
encompassing both classic and skate Nordic
disciplines alongside biathlon.

6 RIFLES’ INNOVATION DAY
On March, ten members of 6 RIFLES
attended the 2 RIFLES innovation event
in Belfast. This brought together soldiers,
defence partners, and industry experts to
explore modern technology and new ways
of working. It created a strong environment
for learning, discussion, and cooperation.
Throughout the day, the team engaged with
a wide range of equipment and ideas designed
to improve effectiveness on future battlefields.
This included demonstrations of advanced
communication systems, surveillance tools,
and protective equipment. These interactions
helped build a clearer understanding of how
technology can support soldiers in complex
and rapidly changing environments.
In addition to the innovation event, the team
supported the regimental boxing team at the
Shaw Cup, held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in
Belfast. This prestigious competition brought
together strong competitors and demonstrated
discipline and resilience, with regimental pride
on full display. The event provided a fitting end
to a productive and engaging visit.
