6 RIFLES
PHYSICAL EXCELLENCE &
SPORTING SUCCESS
Throughout 2026, personnel consistently
performed at a high level across
Adventurous Training, representative sport,
elite competition and extreme endurance
events, reinforcing the Battalion’s reputation
for resilience and performance and
demonstrating the breadth of physical
excellence within the Battalion.
At Army level, 2Lt Heard represented
the Battalion at the Army Alpine Ski
Championships in Serre Chevalier, achieving
an impressive 17th overall finish, placing
2nd Reservist and 4th Infanteer. This result
highlights the Battalion’s ability to compete at
the highest levels of Army sport and reflects
the strength of its winter sports capability.
Endurance achievements were equally
notable. Sjt Sam Cochrane and LCpl Katy
Parrott completed the Marathon des Sables,
a self-sufficient ultramarathon covering over
270 km across the Sahara Desert. Sjt Cochrane
raised over £11,000 for Alex TLC, overcoming
dehydration and hyperthermia during the
100 km stage before finishing the event.
LCpl Parrott also delivered an exceptional
performance, enduring extreme heat, soft
sand and sandstorms while embracing
the challenge. Closer to home, Sgt Jo Page
secured 1st Female at the Dartmoor Marathon,
completing her 39th marathon.
Collectively, these achievements highlight 6
RIFLES’ commitment to developing physically
robust, mentally resilient soldiers capable of
excelling in demanding environments. They
reflect not only individual determination but
also a strong culture of excellence across
the Battalion, where personnel continue to
demonstrate the discipline,
adaptability and drive
required to succeed.
