Over the first half of 2026 The Rifles
permanent staff at ITC Catterick have
continued to deliver first-class training to
recruits across both phase one and phase
two training.
In the 1st Infantry Training Battalion phase
one training has recently updated to a new
version, increasing the physical training
included over the course to better prepare our
soldiers for the rigours of infanteering. RIFLES
instructors are spread across the Battalion,
working together with our peers from every
infantry regiment in delivering the basics of
soldiering for recruits joining both the Infantry
and the Royal Armoured Corps. In the 2nd
Infantry Training Battalion, a RIFLES training
team in Anzio Company continues to deliver
infantry courses to new cohorts of Riflemen
coming into the regiment. Although not all
RIFLES recruits will be trained by this RIFLES
Training Team, 31 new Riflemen this year have
either been passed off or are currently in
training with that training team alone. Across
other training teams and Bastion Company,
RIFLES permanent staff continue to work
hard delivering courses and upholding our
reputation of relaxed professionalism and
soldiering excellence. ITC Catterick remains a
very busy place with training ever evolving to
meet modern threats, including the upcoming
implementation of small UAS across all
phase-two exercises. We remain focused on
mastering the basics of soldiering so that
our newest Riflemen are ready to take up the
challenge of adapting to the latest threats
when they reach their Battalions.
Outside of training delivery, 1ITB A Company
recently sponsored the hosting of our annual
Salamanca dinner night, organised by Capt
Hori. With a show of Buglers led by Assistant
Bugle-Major Pugsley, the night was well
received and well lubricated. Occasions
such as this provide an important chance
for instructors from both training battalions
to meet and catch up, alongside celebrating

strong as
ever
led by Lt Bishop attended the regimental
Sailing Regatta, winning a hard-fought contest
between teams from across the regiment.
And finally, Cpl Bamford from 2ITB has been
selected out of all the Section Commanders
in the Battalion for a six-month instructor
exchange program with the US Army, to deliver
their infantry basic training in Georgia. Well
done and good luck!
The Rifles community at ITC Catterick
remains as strong as ever. We continue to train
new Riflemen to serve in the Regiment and
develop our Section Commanders and young
officers as instructors. For those joining our
Regiment we wish them the best of luck in
their battalions. For the future cohort of RIFLES
instructors, we say take up the challenge!
