Veterans Breakfast –
Stepney, East London
RIFLES veterans gathered East London for lunch. All of them
have had varied experiences since leaving the regiment and
what is clear, is the old swagger and memories come flooding
back when in common company. Ashley Coles (1 RIFLES), Alex
Barker (1RIFLES), Paul Apowida (1 RIFLES), Marcus Cook (3
RIFLES), and James Pepperrell (2 RGJ, 4 RIFLES)
ARMY BOXING FINALS:
2 RIFLES V 3 PARA
In May, Aldershot provided the venue for the Army Boxing Finals which saw 2 RIFLES take on 3
PARA. Many veterans turned out to witness a great evening of boxing with huge support for the
RIFLES; BM Pugsley and his Buglers also provided a rousing display to lift the spirits. The result
did not take away the valiant effort by our boxers and the excellent support by the battalion
and veterans.

THE RIFLES BERKSHIRE & WILTSHIRE
MUSEUM GRAND OPENING
Located in the grounds of Salisbury Cathedral, The Rifles Berkshire & Wiltshire Museum has
undergone major works to refurbish the historic building. A May day was the backdrop for the
Grand Opening and members of 5 RIFLES were on hand to showcase the regiment’s affiliation
to this historic city and appreciative members of the public.

It was great to meet up with
veterans from 2-3 RGJ, and
4RIFLES; of note, Grant Thornton
hadn’t seen Dan Fletcher for 18
years, so it was quite emotional.
Steve Davies and Karl Nelson
were also from the same battalion
and collectively the banter was
comedy gold. It was also good
for all of them to share their life
experiences both when serving
and outside the regiment – it’s
always good to meet up and talk,
not just about the good times…
