ACF BAND AND
BUGLES
The Band and Bugles of Shropshire
ACF remain in demand for military
and civilian events around the county.
They were chosen to lead the Armed
Forces Day parade to Shrewsbury
Castle, where their drill, turnout and
musicianship were praised widely.
THE LIGHT INFANTRY AND RIFLES REUNION
The 2026 Light Infantry and RIFLES
Reunion in Shrewsbury was attended by
over 600 veterans, who enjoyed the Band
and Bugles of The Rifles, the company
of old mates and the liquid refreshment
necessitated by the bright sunshine.
The salute from the seven marching
contingents was returned by Lt Gen
Robin Brims, with the Veterans’ Parade
being followed by a Sounding of Retreat.
RENAMING OF
GLOUCESTER
ARMY RESERVE
CENTRE
The Army Reserve Centre occupied by
A Coy 6 RIFLES was recently renamed
Alexandria Barracks. The 28th (North
Gloucestershire) Regiment of Foot,
an antecedent of The Rifles, played
an important role in the Battle of
Alexandria in Egypt in March 1801,
during which a French Army was
defeated by formations led by, amongst
others, General Sir John Moore. The 28th
Regiment beat off attacks from their
front and rear, and this action led to
the subsequent adoption of the Back
Badge, still worn by The Rifles today.
