CADET RSM - GOES
THE DISTANCE FOR
MENTAL HEALTH
Cadet RSM Alex Rubery, Crownhill
Detachment, B Company completed
the Plymouth Half Marathon in a
remarkable display of resilience, just
one week after being discharged
from hospital. Alex crossed the
finish line in 2 hours and 6 minutes.
What makes the achievement more
impressive is that Alex had been
hospitalised with a kidney infection
in the days immediately before the
race, and it left real uncertainty about
whether the run could even happen.
Alex commented: “I felt an
overwhelming sense of pride, knowing
that I had overcome illness, limited
preparation, and self-doubt. Overall,
the Plymouth Half Marathon taught
me the importance of resilience,
determination, and the power of
community support.”
Alex ran on behalf of the Army
Cadet Charitable Trust to provide the
Devon ACF with the resources needed
to better support cadets who are
navigating neurodiversity and mental

A NEW ERA FOR DEVON ACF AS TOR BRIDGE
HIGH DETACHMENT OPENS
Devon Army Cadet Force (ACF) recently
opened a brand-new Army Cadet
detachment at Tor Bridge High School
in Plymouth. At the first parade over 25
new cadets and their parents attended
where the cadets were given lessons in
drill and badges of rank.
The detachment was the brainchild of a
newly qualified teacher at Tor Bridge High
School, Sjt Maise Thompson, who had been
a cadet herself. The detachment is led by
a dedicated team of Cadet Force Adult

LORD MAYOR COMMENDATION
Cadet CSM Parry, of C “Cambrai” Company,
Devon Army Cadet Force, has been awarded
a Lord Mayor of Exeter Commendation, one
of only seven presented this year.
The commendation recognises his
outstanding contribution as a speaker,
following two engagements: The Rifles Bugle
Breakfast and a Ten Tors event. The Lord
Mayor of Exeter singled out his commitment
to the organisation, commending him for his
outstanding representation of Devon Army
Cadet Force.
This recognition stands as a testament
to the calibre of young leaders within Devon
ACF, and to the broader value of the public
speaking and engagement opportunities the
organisation provides its cadets.

Volunteers (CFAVs), and while the team is
already in place, applications from additional
adult volunteers are warmly welcomed.

Army Cadet Force said, “The launch of the
new Tor Bridge High Detachment marks
an exciting milestone for Devon Army
Cadet Force and for the young people of
Plymouth. As we work towards the 30%
expansion of cadets by 2030, this new
detachment demonstrates exactly what
that vision is about.”
