BODMIN KEEP –
CORNWALL’S ARMY MUSEUM
As the Museum closure continues,
Cornwall’s Army Museum has been busy
finding new ways to engage the public such
as touring displays, exhibitions, and onsite
events in our courtyard area.
We began the year taking part in ‘Flamm’,
Bodmin’s first town-wide contemporary
art festival. In the pitch black of a February
night The Keep became the backdrop to
artist Rachael Jones’ film, ‘Keepers’ about
the treasures in the regimental collection.
Museum staff and volunteers were featured
talking about their favourite items.
From April our museum has been on
the road. Our pop-up display on military
communications has been touring fairs,
shows, and steam rallies across Cornwall and
at many of these events, crowds were treated
to an appearance by our fully-restored Ferret
Mk II Scout Car.
Closer to home, our ‘Treasures on Tour’ on
permanent display at Bodmin Town Council
showcases regimental cap badges spanning
generations of light infantry service from The
Rifles’ antecedent regiments.
Back at the Keep, we have continued to
host school holiday activities in the Keep
courtyard. Most recently, in June military
historian Christopher Jary drew a captivated
crowd for his talk about the 43rd (Wessex)
Infantry Division and the Battle for Hill 112 in
July 1944 which raised significant funds for
the Museum.
